Salon Roundup 2012-W26

Halfway through the year (yes, already).  In the past four weeks we've offered one sample each of our four blog "flavors".  Moreover, June was a remarkable month of international viewings for our humble blog, nearly a dozen countries including two with first-time visits.  We appreciate all our blog patrons, be they fleeting samplers, occasional drop-ins, or hard-core regulars.  Thank you!

Your blogmaster rounded up a few works created by our member-artists during the current hiatus, presented below.  We'll return with a Showcase on July 7 and in the meantime—for our fellow US citizens—Happy Independence Day!   Pluribus Unum

Salon Vault 2012-W25

A crazy June heatwave, a surge in viewership (thanks CDAN readers), and first-time visits from two countries—Australia and Greece—take the international tally to 41.  Crikey!  What a couple of weeks it has been.

Meanwhile, a Salonian or two are bound for a Summer Solstice Sketching Party with some pals from Truman College.  Thus our worthy efforts from that outing might be displayed in a roundup next week.  In the interim and with Salon in recess, the blogmaster reached into the Vault and blew the dust off a couple previously unseen works lurking therein.  Απολαύστε!

Salon Classic 2012-W24

I never sang (much) for my father.  I sing badly—so like anyone, he was grateful to be spared.  But I did get a chance to paint for him.

One day my eye was drawn to a vivid scarlet dragonfly at rest on one of Dad's pond plants; the ensuing photograph inspired a series of paintings in 2009.  Later that year, I relocated to Texas to help out with Dad's cancer therapies and I brought those paintings with me.  He really liked one in particular, so I framed it for what turned out to have been his last birthday.

Ten months later, Dad passed... peacefully, in his sleep, in his own bed, right before our very first Salon.  Consequently, he never got to see any Salon art.  But I thought that on this Father's Day, wherever his spirit may be, Dad might smile to see his pond painting take the place of pride as our Classic offering.  I hope you enjoy it as he did.

Salon Showcase 2012-W23

A gorgeous day—and a lovely morning to paint (or draw).  And so we did.  Salon is taking off until July so in coming weeks we'll present some mix of Roundups, Vaults, and Classics until next we reconvene.  For now, please enjoy these works from today!

Salon Showcase 2012-W22

Talk about a crazy week...  record breaking heat on Memorial Day, followed by March-style cold rainy weather leading into the weekend.  And surely somewhere, someone will blame that on Obamacare — but in the meanwhile we had a full house at Salon, where we crafted these works for your perusal.  Enjoy!
