Salon Showcase 2011-W30

Oh and was it a glorious day to paint... or simply to be alive!  We are doubly blessed with sunshine and low humidity after averaging over an inch of rain per day lately.  Moreover, we were blessed to have Marge Bolin join us again as a guest artist this week.  Going forward, Salon will be on hiatus until after Labor Day, but we'll manage to post something every week—be it new or "classic"—so keep coming back y'all.  Bienvenue to our blog viewers in France, who have rocketed up the international hits list in the past two weeks.  Que vous apprécierez!

Salon Showcase 2011-W29

We surrender! We admit defeat by this very potent Dome of Heat that—for a week now—has stifled these broad, green plains that nourish our land.  Heck, the green plains are probably a little brownish after a week of this.  The oppressive heat here in the City of Big (Sweaty) Shoulders has so sapped our vitality that we voted to cancel Salon.  In lieu, we can share a collection of plein air sketches from our June trip to the Highland Games.  We'll be back next week; meanwhile, stay cool when you can!

Salon Showcase 2011-W28

Chicagoland stands poised on the brink of some hellified weather, but — though barely muggy — today was very tolerable in the non-air conditioned Salon.  Besides, we were all in good spirits because... joining us as guest artist was our friend, the very talented Marge Bolin.  She is such a great drawer that even her quick sketches are a bit magical, as you can see below.  Assuming the city doesn't melt into one giant puddle, we'll be back next week.  Meanwhile, stay cool and enjoy!

Salon Showcase 2011-W27

Ahoy!  No Salon today... so we have two items from the blogkeeper's vault.  First up is a companion piece to Julia's earlier work from Week 23; both pieces are now in a private collection.  Second is the first in a series David began last week.

Salon will be on next week, joined by a terrific guest artist.  Meanwhile, hopefully you (like us) are having some "Chamber of Commerce" summer weather today.  Enjoy!

Salon Showcase 2011-W26

Salon decided it was "on" at the last minute this week... and an appropriate theme also arose spontaneously (except for one work in progress).  Hard to believe we're halfway through 2011, isn't it?  Please join us in being thankful that we are privileged to enjoy life in the land of the free and the home of the brave.  Play ball!
