Salon Showcase 2010-W50

Well, here we are on the brink of Christmas and the end of 2010.  Half of us ended up the day with works-in-progress — so maybe we were very lazy today, or maybe we've just had good luck with productivity in prior weeks.  Potayto/Potahto.

In anticipation of a very lazy New Year's Day, the Salon elected to take off a couple weeks.  Our next post will be on (Elvis's birthday) January 8, 2011.  In the meantime, the Salon member-artists want to wish you all a peaceful holiday season, however you celebrate it.  Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!

Salon Showcase 2010-W49

Julia changes running groups and so returns as a regular... and perhaps began a series today.  Everyone's painting was inspired by the season.  Maybe that is typical of December-born art?  Hopefully all our friends and family are enjoying the holidays so far.  We are!  We will be back next week for the last Salon of 2010.   Enjoy!

Salon Showcase 2010-W48

This week, the Salon fell victim to our first snow of the season... but since we got to December with no snow, we can't complain.  With nothing new to show, below is the work that inspired the current enhanced cat series.  We were undertaking a class exercise to paint in the style of artist Ken Schadt, and this was David's effort to "be Ken".  A new cat —and more— to come next week.  Meanwhile, stay warm, and enjoy!

Salon Showcase 2010-W47

We ate from two different turkeys and one chicken, and yet we all thought this year's bird was the best ever...  coincidence or conspiracy?  Discuss!  Julia made it to the Salon this week after all, but we will be shorthanded next week while Eileen travels.  Here are our last efforts for November.  Enjoy!

Salon Showcase 2010-W46

Today we learned that artist-member Julia will be taking a sabbatical from the Salon deW to train for a half-marathon in mid-February.  While we will be with her in spirit, during the reality of our Chicago winters she'll have to do the actual outdoor running by herself.  Glen took a moment to title his work from 2010-W44 before moving on to a new piece, Eileen captured a favorite object, and David transitions from the chicken theme back to an earlier theme he plans to explore further going forward.  Enjoy, and best wishes for a Happy Thanksgiving!

Salon Showcase 2010-W45

We appreciated the terrific response to our first posting, and updated our blog with links to some of our artist friends. Today was gloomy outdoors but cheerful in the salon.  We deliberately continued a farm theme that began unintentionally...  Eileen and David continue in their series, while Glen joined in with a farm dog and Julia celebrated autumn.  Enjoy!
