Salon Roundup 2012-W21

Happy Memorial Day Weekend, and for those who notice such things, that is indeed a new form of title on this week's blog.  Going forward, we'll have a Showcase during weeks when Salon meets.  If not, our backup goal is a Roundup of the gang's works from the week.   Failing a Showcase/Roundup, either we'll offer previously unseen items from the blogmaster's Vault or we'll curate some retrospective of Classics for you to reappreciate.  So now when you wake up Saturday morning you can wonder, "Showcase, Roundup, Vault or Classics... which will it be today?"

And thus on to today.  Your blogmaster made the second of three paintings in a new series.  The other Salon members had a busy week, so in lieu of rounded up works from them, we'll offer two in-progress snaps of today's painting; one after the first wash and another from somewhere in the middle.  If you saw last week's blog you might now discern the series' underlying theme — even so, good luck guessing what image will appear in painting #3 next week!

Salon Showcase 2012-W20

Salon is taking off for Memorial Day next week, but the blog will arise as usual on Saturday with another entry from the blogmaster's new mini-series that began today.  And perhaps other entries...

Meanwhile, today we are joined by guest artist Ken Schadt.  Ken exhibits regularly at the Ten Cat Tavern (new show coming soon).  He paints in prolonged series that give him an opportunity to pursue many many facets of each concept.  Owing to his lengthy tenure there, Ken has been a welcoming presence as each Salonian, in turn, attended their first art class in Truman College's continuing education program.  You can see more of Ken's work by clicking the Truman College link on the right side of our page.  Ken's pieces today are from his ongoing "Stripes" series.  Enjoy!

Salon Showcase 2012-W19

Hello—and to our new international viewer Sri Lanka, வணக்கம்.  Which is "hello" in Tamil, one of the two official languages.  Regrettably, we couldn't find a translation into Sinhalese, the other.

Moving on, Salon was upbeat today, with everyone well pleased by their drawing or painting.  Next time we are hosting a new-to-Salon guest artist, so be sure to check back to sample his work.  Until then, please enjoy our efforts from this week.  And don't forget to call your Mother... she gave you life!~

Salon Showcase 2012-W18

Woo Hoo!!   Laughing in the face of procrastination himself, we managed to complete a 32-page entry entitled Forks & Spoons for the Sketchbook Project 2012.  In it, our goal was to create imagery of common pair-associations from cultural references & American idioms.

Today, Salon is checking out the Sketchbook Project 2012 at Hyde Park Art Center, visiting our book and thousands of others.  See it if you can...  the exhibition concludes today,
May 5 at 4pm, so hurry!   Our book has call number 144.3-9.  To the right is the cover, so you'll know it when you see it.  We would love to see you there.

For our out-of-town followers, the exhibition tours America, maybe to a town near you...  Sketchbook 2012 Tour Schedule.  For those who can't see the book in person, a future blog will link to an on-line version.  Meanwhile, the book's centerfold —our self-depictions as a table setting— appears below.  Enjoy!
