Salon Showcase 2012-W13

مرحبا  — which is "hello" in Arabic.  For the second time this month we have a week with two first-time international visits...  Egypt and Portugal.  We need a new word for that:  cramazing!  (Crazy + Amazing)   Obrigado por olhar para o nosso blog!

Today we hosted guest artist Dorothy Soltys for her first time and had a rapid return visit from guest artist Meggan Kehrli.  Welcome, and welcome back.  The painting table saw a very productive day, so in addition to the fine works below, we stashed a few extra paintings into the vault.  And just in the nick, since although Salon will be on a hiatus next week, the blog will arise as usual Saturday noonish.

Salon Showcase 2012-W12

Salon gained a new rotating member, former guest artist Molly Gilchrist, and hosted a new guest artist, Meggan Kehrli.  Welcome ladies, we look forward to more from you in the future.

Blogmaster usually takes the bottom slot, but the subject this week is too important to appear last.  Painting so many faces of evil in 2011 was good practice for painting today's face of goodness:  a face that fell victim not necessarily to an evil individual, but surely victim to an evil attitude, and one that unfortunately is too prevalent in society today.

We are disrespectful and afraid of people, ideas, faiths, families—and on and on—that are not exactly like our own.  At best this leads to bigotry we may not even be aware of.  At worst, it leads to the death of innocents.  Most of us could stand to reflect a moment on our own prejudices and perhaps pledge to open our minds and hearts a little more where those attitudes are concerned.  To begin, try thinking "some..." or "many..." instead of "all...."   Less emphasis on Standing Your Ground, more emphasis on Finding Common Ground.  Thank you for listening; please enjoy the artwork from today's Salon.

Salon Showcase 2012-W11

No Chicagoan can remember a St. Patrick's Day where you didn't want a coat, plus umbrella or ear muffs depending on which side of freezing the precipitation was being delivered from.  This year, we are scrambling through boxes of put-away summer clothing on a hunt for green shorts.  Faith and Begorrah!

It was a slow tense countdown this week, but Thursday night at 11pm we had our 2,500th blog visit.  Woot Woot Woot!!  Furthermore, during the last ten ticks we had international visits from TWO new countries: South Korea and Chile.  Amazing!  That brings our international viewings roster to 35 countries.  In keeping with our custom of saluting first time visits in the native language,  환영  & gracias, vendrá de nuevo.  (Hopefully nothing inadvertently offensive in that polyglot mashup.)

Presciently anticipating hangovers/party prep exhaustion, we opted for no Salon today.  Please enjoy these paintings from the Blogmaster's vault.

Salon Showcase 2012-W10

Spring fever overcame us with a vengeance this week, and it seems a severe relapse is in the cards for next week.  Yowza!  The simple pleasure of opening up the windows for a few hours is hard to beat.  What better way to celebrate than to enjoy the twin delights of
(1) painting with friends, and (2) made-from-scratch Tres Leches cake with whipped cream and fresh fruit atop.  We can share pictures of both...  voila!

Salon Showcase 2012-W09

We welcomed another new nation to the roster of international visitors, our favorite multicultural archipelago: the Philippines.  After briefly celebrating that, we put on our squarepants and settled into Salon SynchronicityTM featuring works painted with sponges.  Various shapes and sizes, synthetic and natural. But unexpectedly, turned out the best of the lot was a (pristine) replacement head from one of Glen's old mops.  True story.  He generously ripped off a chunk for any who wanted one, and the rest — as they say — is history.  Please check out our historical works below.
