Salon Showcase 2011-W43

Without further ado, Salon deWinchester welcomes our newest member, Marge Bolin.  You may remember Marge's work on our blog in July during her guest visits
(weeks 28 & 30).  If not, check out the archives.

Well, what better way to celebrate Marge's initiation than with a theme week?  But not lumpy pumpkins and hokey ghosts!  While it seems vaguely appropriate to Halloween, our Salon SynchronicityTM theme was hatched back in the Spring, during the "Can you name?..." game.  After having accounted for all Seven Dwarves, we turned to the roster of Seven Deadly Sins.

They have inspired art through the ages.  In one theory, everybody has a fatal flaw from somewhere on this list and engages in a lifelong struggle to get the better of theirs.  Surprisingly, as we went around the table selecting which Sin to depict, everyone got their first choice.  Hmmmm.  Below are our unattributed interpretations, presented in the same order as rendered in a cautionary painting by Bosch on display at the Museo del Prado.  In closing, who better to quote than William Shakespeare:  Some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall...

Salon Showcase 2011-W42

Kind of a nondescript day at Salon — as if our attention were elsewhere.  We decided to wrap up early today and even then, everyone finished up really early.  Mission accomplished.  Next week, we'll be presenting our first Salon SynchronicityTM in a while, though we planned this one months ago.  Why the delay?  Good question.  Perhaps the answer will appear in next weeks blog...

Salon Showcase 2011-W41

With Eileen and her very saucy top setting the tone, we joyfully celebrated today our one year anniversary of fellowship & art under the auspices of the Salon deWinchester!  What's more — though we shan't be blogging it any time soon — we formed a separate group to explore 3-dimensional expression & media.  For now, further details will remain shrouded in mystery.   Meanwhile, we look forward to many more years of fun-based creativity and sharing our works.  We are so grateful to all you who look in on our blog from time to time and check out our endeavors.  Here's to the next Salonniversary... and beyond!

Salon Showcase 2011-W40

It is a truly glorious morning here in Chicago, and since all the Salon members are running in the big Marathon tomorrow, today's showcase comes courtesy of the blogmaster's vault.  Please enjoy detecting just which portion of the prior sentence is a bald-faced lie incredible, and also enjoy the art!

Salon Showcase 2011-W39

Salon was back to full strength today, and a beautiful day it is.  Chilly, but bright after a week of rain.  We had our first Baltic viewer, from Latvia — Laipni lūdzam!  (That sounds very pretty when spoken.)  We're showing some pretty drawings and comely paintings.  Make no mistake, the last portrait is not part of the Faces of Evil series... though opinions on that point may differ.  Enjoy!
